What Does Being Fit and Flourishing Mean to You?

Creating a health vision is an empowering activity that connects you to what is most important to you. It helps you focus on what you want your future to look like, serving as a target for your overall health and well-being.

Crafting Your Health Vision Statement

A well-crafted health and wellness vision statement should be:

- Positive and Compelling: Clearly exhibit healthy behaviors you want to do consistently.

- Future-Oriented: Provide a big-picture view of your optimal health and wellness state.

- Inspirational: Be a bold description that energizes and draws you toward your goals.

Examples of Vision Statements

- Health Improvement: "My vision for next year is to improve my overall health by lowering my cholesterol and blood sugar so that I'm free of all medications and free from worry about anxiety about my health."

- Regular Exercise:: "My vision is that in the next six months, I'll be exercising regularly so that I'm preserving my ability to function fully and live independently as I get older."

- Weight Management: "My vision is that I have reversed a trend of steady weight gain so that I look better, feel younger, and I'm wearing stylish clothes that I feel super confident in."

Four Steps to Creating Your Personalized Health Vision

1. Visualize Your Best Self

Begin by imagining yourself at your best—healthiest, happiest, and most successful. Visualize yourself already having achieved optimal fitness and flourishing. Think about the health-enhancing behaviors you are doing consistently and what you can do or have more of in your life that you don't have now.

2. Paint a Detailed Picture

Describe the scene in your mind with as much detail and color as possible. What does optimal functioning look like? How does it feel to be this version of yourself? Consider the emotions that come up and paint the picture vividly.

3. Identify Your Motivation

Reflect on your desires and motivation for achieving this state. What will you be able to do more of and have more of in your life? Identify the motivations that resonate deeply with you and build a strong emotional connection to your vision.

4. Explore the Details

Understand the key elements of your vision and what they mean for your life. Take time to explore these details and nuances, creating awareness of the possible actions and steps you can take to move toward this desired state.
